STONE
CARE & MAINTENANCE
Upon installation, your
stone will have been sealed with two coats of StoneTech’s
BulletProof stone sealer. Each type of stone has its own level of porosity and
will therefore absorb fluids at different rates. The application of a
penetrating sealer such as BulletProof is an excellent first
step towards stone protection and maintenance; however, marble,
limestone and light colored granites tend to be more absorbent. These
types of stones may require additional coats of sealer. It is the
homeowner’s responsibility to test and maintain the stone after
the stone has been installed. Marin Marble strongly recommends
testing your stone’s current level of sealing with the following water test.
This test should be performed periodically, typically twice a year.
Apply
a few drops of water to different areas of the stone.
Let
the water stand for 15 to 30 minutes.
If
the water droplets retain their original shape, your sealer is
providing adequate protection.
If
the water droplets begin to penetrate into the stone, your stone
needs additional sealer. Water penetration is determined by the
water droplets flattening out or by a visible discoloration of the
stone.
PROPER
STONE CLEANING
Marin
Marble recommends that your stone surfaces be cleaned with
StoneTech’s Revitalizer.
Revitalizer safely and effectively cleans everyday soils on your stone while
providing an invisible protective seal to prevent future staining. If
your Revitalizer supply runs out, please contact Marin Marble to replenish your supply or water and a neutral cleaner can be used to clean
your stone.
DO
NOT use the following cleaning products on your stone. Use of these
products may dull polished finishes and/or may degrade your stone’s
sealer.
Lime-A-Way
Glass
Cleaners (any type)
Abrasive
Liquids or Powders (i.e. Ajax, Comet, Soft Scrub, etc.)
Vinegar
Ammonia
WARNING: Typical
items such as fruit juices, coffee, wine, mustard, toothpaste,
mouthwash and many soft drinks are highly acidic and will etch (dull)
or discolor most marble, limestone and travertine. Penetrating sealers will NOT prevent acid etching. Immediately clean up acid-based spills/materials. Note that most granite,
slate, sandstone and serpentine stones are acid resistant.
