BID PROCESS
The BID PROCESS is meant to provide you guidance on the type of information Marin Marble requires to provide an accurate bid and ultimately a high quality product. Please call us at 415.492.1520 if you have any questions on the process and we will gladly help you.
STEP 1. DRAWINGS/PLANS
Send
us your dimensional drawings or plans. These drawings can be
simple hand drawn views or computer-generated plans of your
desired countertops, vanities, shower surrounds, fireplace surround, etc. Please list
all relevant dimensions, wall locations, exposed edges and number of
outlet/switch cutouts required.
STEP 2. MATERIAL SELECTION
We
are in an exciting time for natural stone with more choices than
ever before. As a stone shopper, you may be overwhelmed by the vast
number of granite and marble choices. However, it is important to
see and hand select specific slabs for your project as similar stone can have dramatic differences. Please refer to
our Stone Slab Partners List for directions to their warehouses and/or links to their specific web sites.
STEP 3. EDGE DETAIL
The
selection of edge detail is an important factor in not only pricing accurately but also in your overall design. Edge detail pricing
is solely dependent on our costs in fabricating the desired edge.
The standard stone thickness is 3/4" (2cm). Edge thicknesses can vary
from a single (3/4" or 2 cm) thickness to laminated multiples of this
thickness, typically 1 1/2" or 2 1/4". Some stone slabs also come in 1 1/4" (3 cm) thicknesses. These thicker slabs typically don't require lamination. For those customers who are
unsure of their desired edge, Marin Marble will gladly provide a bid based on a common, mid-priced edge called a 1 1/2" full
bullnose. Please click on this link to view/select from these Edge Detail. Note that our highly trained stone artisans are capable of creating practically any "custom" edge.
STEP 4. BACKSPLASH
If your project requires backsplashes, please make note of the desired height and location.
STEP 5. SINK TYPE
There
are several sink options: top mount, undermount,
farm-style and vessel. Each type requires a certain amount of
labor. Undermount and farm-style sinks tend to be more
desirable due to their clean appearance and ease of countertop
cleaning. However, these sink cutouts need the stone to be
polished on exposed sides and require very tight tolerances which
ultimately results in a higher price.
STEP 6. STOVE/RANGE TYPE (Kitchens only)
There
are two types of stoves/ranges: drop-in and
slide-in. Drop-in stoves/ranges require a hole to be cut in
the stone. Slide-in stoves/ranges require less overall stone and
no hole cut.
STEP 7. TUB TYPE (Bathrooms only)
There are two tub options: top mount and undermount.
STEP 8. ACCESS
Access
information to your home and the specific room is very helpful in
planning for installation. Due to the often large dimensions and weight
of the stone, our installers would need to know how accessible
your home is; road type, number of steps to or in home,
elevator access only, tight hallway or stairway corners, parking
limitations or any other considerations.
With the above information, our team at Marin Marble can create a timely and accurate bid. Simply fax, email or drop off the information.
